C H A R A C T E R;
NAME: Aveline Vallen
CANON: Dragon Age
POINT IN CANON: Post game
AGE: Early thirties
APPEARANCE: Concept Art here. Aveline is a muscular, freckled, green-eyed redhead with a strong nose and wide jaw.
CANON HISTORY: Here
CANON PERSONALITY: Aveline is an intensely moral person. A childhood of stories of knights and adventures formed a basis of chivalry, but she follows it in spirit rather than to the letter of the law, choosing duty rather than honour. She has no time for failure, no patience for honour that comes at a cost of lives. She respects authority, so long as it’s worth following, but she does not and cannot respect corruption, and will root it out and remove it if at all possible. She believes in the Law of the Land, and that it should apply to everyone, regardless of rank or wealth. Those she considers her friends are as good as family, and she will put herself between them and danger no matter what. When she fails at that, such as when her first husband, the templar Wesley, died during their retreat from Lothering, she will hold herself responsible, but also not talk about it very much with most people. She feels loss keenly, even if she doesn’t always show it in obvious ways, but she also only chose to take up a shield rather than a two-handed sword when she lost Wesley and began to use his shield. Even bending the law for their sake is sometimes acceptable. When she makes decisions, it’s final and decisive, and she stands behind it, and doesn’t dwell on the past -- or at least, tries not to. Aveline is strong-willed, has high standards for the men and women under her command in the city guard, but she holds herself to the highest standards of all. Despite an iron will and a tendency to become exasperated at people who take the world less seriously than she does (ie everyone), she’s a kind person, who genuinely wants to make the world a better place, and will put others before herself, always. The biggest exception to her strength comes from a different area. Though she has a romantic side, she struggles at expressing herself romantically, at seeing herself as someone who anyone would want for love. She’s not a conventional beauty and she knows it, but her strength fails her here, and she tends to become terribly awkward when it comes to more emotional confessions of any sort, much less this sort. Certainly she would never have managed to make any sort of confession of interest to her husband Donnic without Hawke.

POINT OF DEPARTURE: A note: This Aveline assumes Hawke as a mage, Carver a warden, and she chose to fight alongside Hawke for the mages.
ABILITIES: Nothing supernatural, but she is strong and a skilled soldier.
INVENTORY; Her sword and shield.
ANYTHING ELSE WE SHOULD KNOW? ...no?

S A M P L E S;
FIRST PERSON:

[Okay, she’s lost. That’s evident, and it’s made her a bit short.]

All right. I don’t know what nonsense is going on here, but I’m looking for a man. His name is Hawke. If he’s here, you’ll know. He doesn’t take anything seriously, for one. This is the sort of thing he would be involved with, one way or another.

So tell me where he is, or at least tell me who’s in charge here. I’ve been brought here against my will, and I don’t take kindly to that.

THIRD PERSON:

It should be enough to have Kirkwall fall down around her ears as it is, but no, she’s in this… place, which is so completely unlike anything she has ever seen that it beggars comparison, and she certainly doesn’t see anyone else nearby. Mages talk about the Fade, but… well, she’s conscious, and she’s definitely no mage, so that can’t be it. She doesn’t even have words for some of the things she sees, and there’s no sense to any of it. It’s definitely not Kirkwall, that’s for sure. She can’t even be sure it’s even Thedas.

This is what she gets for following Hawke, then. It’s probably even his fault, come to think of it, and if she can find him, then probably everything else will work itself out. She’s learned that, at least. Events tend to swirl arouond him like a maelstrom. When things are going on, either Hawke is involved or he soon will be. Even if he weren’t her friend, she’d probably still keep tabs on him just for that reason. The thought, though, gives her a direction and a purpose now: find Hawke, and then maybe… well, Donnic. Finding Donnic would be… good.

She won’t think about the alternative. Not yet. Not yet, not again, no. This is not going to be like Wesley, whatever else is going on. Maybe this is the Fade, and she is dreaming, and she won’t have to worry about any of it.

It’s not a convincing lie, and Aveline has never been in the habit of lying to herself. She pulls herself up, takes a deep breath to steady herself. Right. Well, here goes.
